It was a split that came as a shock to many of their fans, but it seems that the breakdown of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ marriage wasn’t as sudden as we thought.  Court papers which were obtained by the National Enquirer, suggest that the couple’s relationship was doomed six months prior to the announcement that they were separating.  According to the documents, their marriage had ‘broken down irretrievably for a period of at least six months immediately preceding.’  In the legal papers, which are dated August 17, 2012 and signed by New York State Supreme Court Judge Matthew F.
