The 45-year-old son of Robert F. Kennedy, who is on trial for harassment and child endangerment, is claiming he acted out of paternal instinct when he kicked a nurse after she tried to prevent him from stepping outside the hospital with his own baby.
During opening statements on Oct .22 for the trial of
Douglas Kennedy, 45, his defense lawyers said the father of five was acting out of instinct after he
kicked a baby nurse who blocked him from taking his newborn baby outside on Jan. 7.
Attorney
Celia Gordon said Douglas "just wanted to take his baby out for some fresh air" when he tried to exit the Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco, New York with his newborn son. She added that nurses overreacted and were unnecessarily abrasive. But prosecutor
