Pattie Mallette, 36, opens up in Nowhere But Up: The Story of Justin Bieber's Mom about her hard upbringing surrounded by alcoholism, sexual abuse, and violence. What did Bieber's mother reveal in her memoir? Mallette wrote about struggling as a single mother who lost her virginity at age 15 and became pregnant at 17 with the future pop star sensation. She survived a suicide attempt in her teens after suffering years of alleged sexual abuse by friends and neighbors. She wrote the book to help inspire other young women to find their inner strength during times of hardship and need. I just knew I had to keep him," she told Gifford of her pregnancy with her famous son, "I didn't know how I was going to do it but I just knew that I couldn't abort. I had to do my best. Mallette, who was initially worried about revealing his childhood secrets, said the process of writing the memoir was cathartic and "furthered my healing process."
