In Olympic Stadium, Team USA's top female sprinters outpaced their Jamaican competitors to earn gold in the prestigious 4 x 100-meter relay. The team of Tianna Madison, Allyson Felix, Bianca Knight, and Carmelita Jeter set a world record of 40.82, just ahead of the second-place Jamaicans, who posted a 41.41 time. Ukraine captured the bronze. 3. But the favored U.S. men fell to Bahamas. Team USA usually dominates the men's 4×400 relay. But they were run down by the Bahamas in the stretch, meaning that the island nation's male athletes earner their first-ever gold medal. In their semifinal match-up against Argentina, America cruised to a 109-83 victory. They will face Spain in the final, who won a defensive battle with Russia 67-59. 5. America increases its lead in medal count. The United States upped its lead over China in both medal counts: 94 medals to China's 81, and 41 gold medals to China's 37.
