Anderson Cooper jokingly asked an audience packed in the United Nation's General Assembly Hall on Friday. "Because, I've gotta tell you … I wanna be here every Friday night if this goes on." The news anchor was referring to the one-and-only Beyoncé, who was in the house to sing "I Was Here" in honor of World Humanitarian Day, which is August 19. In introducing Beyoncé, Deputy Secretary General Jan Eliasson said, "Tonight [she] brings more than her stunning talents; she brings inspiration to help another person, to help another human being." Then the superstar singer took the stage. In a floor-grazing, sequined white gown, Beyoncé lit up the crowd with a roaring rendition of "I Was Here." As she belted out the lyrics, floor-to-ceiling screens scanned filled with images of different disaster-struck regions of the world and flashed faces of Humanitarian workers. Beyoncé sang in front of hundreds, including Julia Stiles, R&B singer The-Dream and songwriter Diane Warren, who wrote the song. World Humanitarian Day marks the anniversary of the August 19, 2003 bombing of the U.N. offices in Baghdad, which killed 22 people. After she finished singing, Beyoncé encouraged everyone to have a hand in World Humanitarian Day. "I'd like to ask everyone to make sure they're a part of August 19th," she said. "It's such a beautiful, beautiful day, and I'd like to honor the 22 people who lost their lives. God bless you all. Thank you so much for having me."
